About Jules Makes Gates

My name is Julian Newson also known as Jules and I make gates! My journey to where I am now began in 1999 where I began an apprenticeship in Engineering Fabrication (light). Having completed my trade qualification I stayed with my employer at the time for a number of years in the sheet metal, architectural engineering sector. Having gained a wealth of experience I decided to go out on my own in 2006. It didn’t take very long at all to discover the great little niche market that is aluminium gates. From that time I haven’t looked back!

There is a growing demand for aluminium gates due to its durability, lightweight properties and aesthetically pleasing finish. People are wanting aluminium gates for a number of purposes including: Security, privacy, keeping pets and children safe within the property or just to enhance the front of their property.

I specialise in custom made residential aluminium gates that will fit perfectly into the space you have. Nothing is off the shelf or cut down to make fit. I will tackle to tricky jobs that others will pass by. I love to be creative with what I do and pride myself on excellence and like to ensure that my clients are very happy with the finished result.

I also make lightweight aluminium trailers and cages to order. These are light to tow yet very strong due to the design and construction and materials used. Please enquire about my aluminium trailers and cages for more information.

Personally, I value things like family, faith and integrity. I’m married to my wife Catherine.  We have two teenage boys and also an eclectic bunch of nine sheep. I love music, fishing and watching my boys play football. Our family attends the Salvation Army Church in Levin.

The Process

Below is the process that generally occurs with clients.

Enquiry.

Clients hear about my services and get in touch via email or call my cellphone. They may send all the relevant information and photos in an email or just simply make contact.

Site visit.

Once contact is made I will organise a time to meet on site with you to discuss what you have in mind or offer suggestions that might work or look good.

Or Send photos, approximate measurements, style and type of gate and other relevant information. If the photos are clear and it looks relatively straight forward I can give an estimated price from the information provided in the email.

then…

  • Quotation or estimate given with terms and conditions.
  • Acceptance of quote and Terms & Conditions. 50% deposit paid and showing in account.
  • Order materials (if not in stock)
  • Powder coat posts if required. Wait for posts are installed then measure.
  • Begin manufacture
  • Deliver gates to powdercoater
  • Collect from powdercoater.
  •  Arrange a time to install gates. Note: I will need access to power if no one home.
  • Install gates
  • The process from start to finish can depend on factors such as:
    • Availability of materials
    • Current workload
    • How long at powdercoating plant
    • Weather restrictions
    • Held up by other outsourced contractors groundworks

On average the process is around 3 -4 weeks from the time I receive the 50% deposit until the gate is installed. This can be much sooner sometimes and also a little more given the above.

Another way to think of it especially if you are automating your gate is:

  • Groundworks- posts installed, concrete footing (sliding gates)
  • Manufacture and install gates – Jules Makes Gates
  • Automation. I work with a number of people who specialise in this. I will pass on your details and liase between the two people. Alternatively you can contact them directly

FAQ’s

Here are a number of frequently asked questions my clients have.

Can I use my exsisitng timber posts to hang new gates from or support a sliding gate with?

I generally recommend using metal posts where the existing posts are old or not rock solid or plumb. I can supply heavy duty aluminium or galvanized steel posts that are up for the task. The problem with timber posts are that they move and twist over time which affect the alignment and latching of gates.

How long is the process if I accept the quote?

It can be as short as 2 weeks but on average around 3-4 weeks

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A 50% deposit gets the ball rolling to start the ordering of materials. The 50% balance is paid once you are happy with the work and usually within 7 days.

Do you do cash jobs?

No

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. It's 5 years for workmanship and materials.
