Single or double
A single swing gate suits a narrower opening or a side entrance. Double gates split the opening into two leaves. They can be half and half, or in proportions like 2/3 and 1/3 or 3/4 and 1/4.
Hung to close properly
Swing gates are mounted on plate hinges with adjustable sockets, so they can be fine-tuned to close and latch properly. Jules recommends metal posts where the existing timber posts are old, loose or out of plumb, because timber moves and twists over time and that affects how a gate lines up and latches. See gate posts.
Choose a flat or curved top
Choose a flat top, a single or double curved top, or internal curves within the frame. The infill can be round uprights, slats, louvres or a decorative laser-cut panel, and every gate is powder coated in your colour.
Should you choose swing or sliding?
Swing gates suit wider, flatter driveways and rural entrances. If your driveway is short or slopes, or there’s no room for a gate to swing open, a sliding gate may suit better. Jules will talk you through what works best for your site.

Should I choose a sliding gate or a swing gate?
Sliding gates suit short or sloping driveways and places where there is no room for a gate to swing open. Swing gates suit wider, flatter driveways and rural entrances. Jules will talk you through what works best for your site.
Can I hang new gates on my existing timber posts?
Jules recommends metal posts where the existing ones are old, loose or out of plumb, because timber moves and twists over time. He can supply 100 × 100 mm aluminium or galvanised steel posts, powder coated to match.
Can my gate be automated?
Yes. Jules builds sliding and swing gates ready for automation and works with an experienced gate-automation electrician who fits the opener. He will pass on your details and liaise for you.
How long does a custom gate take?
On average about 3 to 4 weeks from the 50% deposit to installation. It can be as short as 2 weeks, or a little longer, depending on materials, workload, powder coating and the weather. Jules will give you a timeframe with your quote.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. There's a 5-year warranty on workmanship. Materials aren't covered.
