Privacy that still lets the wind through
Slat and louvred gates give you privacy while still letting the wind pass through. Louvred gates are elegant and practical: the angled blades give full privacy and let the air through between them.
Slat sizes and spacing
Slats come in two sizes, 65 × 16 mm and 90 × 16 mm, and can run vertically or horizontally. Jules recommends a small gap of 10 mm between slats so the wind can pass through. He recesses the slats within the gate frame for a clean look.
Match the fence
Slat gates look their best alongside matching slat fencing. Jules can make the gates and fence as one job so the slats line up and the colours match. See fencing and panels.
Slat and louvre infill works for double swing, single swing, sliding and pedestrian gates.

Why slats and louvres work so well
Two slat sizes
Slats come in 65 × 16 mm or 90 × 16 mm, running vertically or horizontally.
Lets the wind through
A 10 mm gap between slats, or angled louvre blades, lets air pass so the gate is not acting like a sail.
Clean lines
Slats are recessed within the gate frame for a tidy, modern finish.

Will a slat gate cope with the wind?
Jules recommends a 10 mm gap between slats so the wind can pass through. Louvres also let air through while giving full privacy.
Can you make a gate to match my fence?
Yes. Send a few photos of your fence and house and Jules can match the style and colour, or make matching fence panels at the same time.
Should I choose a sliding gate or a swing gate?
Sliding gates suit short or sloping driveways and places where there is no room for a gate to swing open. Swing gates suit wider, flatter driveways and rural entrances. Jules will talk you through what works best for your site.
What colours can I choose?
Gates and panels are powder coated, and there are many colours to choose from. Charcoal, black and white are common, and colours can be matched to your joinery or fence.
How long does a custom gate take?
On average about 3 to 4 weeks from the 50% deposit to installation. It can be as short as 2 weeks, or a little longer, depending on materials, workload, powder coating and the weather. Jules will give you a timeframe with your quote.
