Made to fit your opening
Every gate Jules makes is custom built to suit your property. Nothing is off the shelf or cut down to fit. He measures up or works from your photos, helps with the design, welds the gate in Levin and installs it himself.
You can pick a design from Jules’s past jobs, bring your own idea or send a drawing. Jules will work through the details with you until you’re happy with the result.
Why aluminium?
Aluminium doesn’t rust, which makes it a good choice for coastal properties from Foxton Beach to Paekākāriki. It’s much lighter than steel, which is easier on hinges, wheels and gate motors. Powder-coated aluminium needs little looking after beyond an occasional wash.
Choose your colour
All gates and panels are powder coated in the colour you choose. Charcoal and black are the most common choices for modern homes, and white suits rural and classic styles. A gate can also be colour matched to your joinery or fence.
How the frames are made
Standard gates have a square tube frame with round tube uprights. Frames are usually 40 × 40 × 3 mm or 50 × 50 × 3 mm, and uprights are 19 mm, with 20, 22 and 25 mm also available. Jules tends to use a heavier wall thickness than some, which makes for a more robust gate, and the square tube has radiused corners that look better and are nicer to handle.
Designs can have horizontal rails, a single or double curved top, or internal curves within the frame. Any style can be made as a single swing, double swing, sliding or pedestrian gate.

Should I choose a sliding gate or a swing gate?
Sliding gates suit short or sloping driveways and places where there is no room for a gate to swing open. Swing gates suit wider, flatter driveways and rural entrances. Jules will talk you through what works best for your site.
Why choose aluminium over steel or timber?
Aluminium does not rust or rot, and powder coating keeps it looking good with little more than a wash now and then. It is also lighter than steel, which is easier on hinges, wheels and gate motors.
What colours can I choose?
Gates and panels are powder coated, and there are many colours to choose from. Charcoal, black and white are common, and colours can be matched to your joinery or fence.
Can you make a gate to my own design?
Yes. Pick a design from past jobs, bring your own idea, or send a drawing.
How long does a custom gate take?
On average about 3 to 4 weeks from the 50% deposit to installation. It can be as short as 2 weeks, or a little longer, depending on materials, workload, powder coating and the weather. Jules will give you a timeframe with your quote.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. There's a 5-year warranty on workmanship. Materials aren't covered.
